I was honored to be invited to the first-ever ALGV Kindness Connection event. Held at the stunning Secrets® Tides Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, this transformative four-day experience brought together top travel professionals to explore fresh approaches to leadership, connection, and making a positive impact.
The event kicked off with a fun and casual welcome dinner, where attendees were encouraged to wear t-shirts that represented their personality or interests. It was the perfect icebreaker, setting the tone for the days ahead. Though the welcome dinner was nearly derailed by a sudden downpour, attendees demonstrated the adaptability that defines the travel industry. We pivoted! Without missing a beat, the resort staff quickly moved the event indoors, where we enjoyed a wonderful dinner and entertainment – proving that a little rain couldn’t dampen our enthusiasm for the days ahead.
On the second day, we rolled up our sleeves and got to work on a meaningful giveback activity. Divided into teams, we visited a local school and an orphanage, lending a hand with minor renovations and repairs to provide a safer, more engaging environment for the children. But the real highlight was when we got to meet the kids and hand out backpacks filled with school supplies and brand-new tennis shoes. Seeing the joy and gratitude on their faces was truly heartwarming – a testament to the power of kindness in action. Together, we raised over $20,000 to support the much-needed improvements at these deserving educational facilities.
The heart of the Kindness Connection was the series of empowering workshops that explored ALGV’s three pillars of kindness – kindness to ourselves, kindness to others, and kindness in travel. Sessions delved into topics like active listening, productivity, personal branding, and bridging generational gaps, providing practical strategies to embody these principles. These workshops were not only informative but also fostered deep connections between the attendees. The most memorable moment was the intimate conversation between Jackie Marks, the Global Head of Vacations at ALGV, and the renowned actress Hannah Waddingham. They discussed how Hannah’s commitment to living out these kindness pillars extends far beyond her acclaimed career and into her everyday life, leaving a lasting impression on all of us and reminding us of the transformative power of compassion.
Throughout the event, there were plenty of opportunities to unwind and have fun. From poolside activities to an elegant farewell dinner, the Kindness Connection was a true celebration of kindness, community, and visionary leadership in the travel industry.
The Kindness Connection left an indelible mark on all who attended. As travel professionals dedicated to creating exceptional experiences, we at Latitude 21 Travel were deeply inspired by the spirit of compassion, creativity, and community that permeated this transformative event. This was a powerful reminder that when we come together with open hearts and a shared purpose, we can cultivate truly meaningful connections and make a lasting positive impact.
The Kindness Connection exemplified the values that are core to Latitude 21 Travel.
